Explore and gain a deeper understanding of the area through our excursions. Please note that these experiences can only be booked in connection with a stay at the lodge. Some excursions require a minimum number of nights or a certain level of physical fitness. Read the descriptions carefully, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Glacier sauna

* 1 night at Glacier Lodge Eqi is required

At the edge of the lodge area, with a stunning view of the fjord and the calving glacier, you’ll now find beautiful saunas — naturally featuring large panoramic windows.

The nature at Eqi invites reflection and relaxation, and the sauna is the perfect way to unwind. Whether it’s a heavy rainy day, a retreat after a hike, or an evening session to round off the day, the sauna is a natural first choice.

Next to the sauna, there’s an icy outdoor shower where you can rinse off in cold, fresh meltwater from the Ice Sheet.

Please note
The sauna is generally heated at 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM.

We have two saunas, each accommodating up to six people, so you may have to share with other guests.

It’s also possible to book a private sauna session — please contact World of Greenland if you wish to do so. Essential oils are provided, but there will be no sauna master. Swimwear or underwear is required.

Hike to the Ice Sheet

* 2 nights at Glacier Lodge Eqi is required

The tour starts in the morning from Eqi, and you’ll return just before dinner. Therefore, please book this excursion with an overnight stay both before and after the tour.

This is a long and incredibly varied hike that takes you through several types of landscapes: lush lowlands, windswept highlands, moraines, and finally all the way up to the Ice Sheet itself. In a beautiful valley overlooking a dead glacier, we enjoy our lunch before crossing the moraine and heading towards the Ice Sheet — the absolute highlight of the tour. Tired but satisfied, we return late in the day for a well-deserved dinner.

During the hike, we follow in the footsteps of Paul-Émile Victor, all the way to the Ice Sheet. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, tracked vehicles transported supplies to Victor’s famous Ice Sheet expeditions here, and to this day, remnants of those expeditions can still be seen along the route.

Please note
This excursion requires a minimum of two nights at Glacier Lodge Eqi and is not suitable for children under 8 years old. Coffee and tea will be served along the way.

The hike is physically demanding but not technically difficult. No prior experience with ice or climbing is required. The route is approximately 25 km long with about 1,000 meters of elevation gain and takes around 10 hours — participants should therefore be in good physical condition and have good endurance.

Hike to the delta

* 1 night at Glacier Lodge Eqi is required

This hike takes you to the edge of the delta. We focus on flora and fauna as we pass the French hut and continue out to the impressive Delta. Here the landscape opens up and you get a fantastic view of the delta.

Here the greyish meltwater from the Ice Sheet rushes out into a branching network of small rivers that flow into the bay. We walk on small paths on the cliffs along the coast and keep an eye out for snow hares and arctic foxes, bluebells and moss sedges. And maybe, if we are lucky, we will see the annually returning pair of white-tailed eagles that have nested on the cliff edge somewhere. Both on the way out and back you will also get a beautiful view of the Eqi glacier.

Note

The tour starts from Glacier Lodge Eqi in the afternoon and is approximately 4 km long. The entire tour takes place in mountainous terrain and takes approximately 3 hours. Coffee or tea will be served along the way.

Hike to the glacier moraine

* 1 night at Glacier Lodge Eqi is required

This hike is included in your stay at Glacier Lodge Eqi and departs daily.

After breakfast, we set off directly toward the breathtaking glacier.

Along the way, we pass remnants from past expeditions that once took place in the area. We cross a rushing stream and walk past a beautiful lagoon. Out here, the only sounds breaking the silence are the constant rumbling and cracking of the glacier.

After a steep climb up onto the moraine, we suddenly find ourselves standing right next to the immense glacier front. Here, we take a well-deserved lunch break, enjoying the spectacular view while watching chunks of ice calve from the glacier wall.

Please note
The hike departs from Glacier Lodge Eqi right after breakfast on the day of departure. We return to the lodge just before the boat leaves for Ilulissat.

The hike to the glacier moraine is approximately 12 km long. The route runs through mountain terrain and takes about 4 hours. Most of the terrain is flat, but the final ascent to the moraine can be challenging. We bring lunch and drinks along for the trip.
