When you buy a stay at Ilimanaq Lodge, you can also add-on the sailing trip to Ilimanaq & return

The boat sails 3 times a day. Departure from Ilulissat at 08:00, 10:00, or 16:00. Departure from Ilimanaq at 9:00, 11.00 or 17.00.

Ilulissat is Greenland's 3rd largest town. You get here by plane from Reykjavik or from Copenhagen (via Nuuk).
For more information look at Air Greenland’s or Icelandair's webpage.

Our best recommendation for all guests is to have at least 1 buffer day before leaving for Ilimanaq.
Flight delays are common in Greenland, and if you have planned too tight a schedule, it may not be possible to reschedule your stay to another day.

You decide how many nights to stay in Ilimanaq. With one night, you can enjoy several tours and get a glimpse of both the village and the surrounding area. By staying for more nights, you'll experience a more relaxed pace, allowing you to enjoy the tranquility and take your time exploring without the rush.

Boat shuttle, restaurant, activities and lunch is not automatically included and must be bought as an add on.

It is recommended that you pack as lightly as possible when visiting Ilimanaq Lodge.

  • Sensible clothing and footwear
  • Hiking shoes or hiking boots if you want to hike
  • Toiletries
  • A book or other offline entertainment

We have no dress code - come as you are.

For the sake of our employees' physical health, we only handle bags and suitcases up to 20 kg.

If you have more luggage with you to Greenland, most hotels in Ilulissat will be able to store luggage for you.

Ilulissat is Greenland's most popular tourist destination - and for good reason.

Here are some of the world's largest icebergs, whales, glaciers and fantastic opportunities for hiking and trail running.

We also have another lodge, located in the wilderness, 80 km north of Ilulissat, right next to a calving glacier.
See this page, if you want to learn more about Glacier Lodge Eqi.

Ilimanaq Lodge is open from the middle of June until the middle of September when the frost sets in.

In June and July, you will experience midnight sun. August offers hourlong pastel-coloured sunsets. And in September you might be lucky enough and get to experience the dancing Aurora Borealis.

In other words, all seasons of summer has its charms – and we love them all.

All our bungalows in Ilimanaq Lodge have the same shape and interior.

The primary difference between Bungalow and Bungalow De Luxe is the view, which is more panoramic in De Luxe.

All bungalows have sea view.

When you go ashore in Ilimanaq Lodge, you need to climb stairs at the pier.

The road in the settlement is uneven and there is approximately 400 meters from the reception and restaurant to the bungalows.

Coming ashore is not handicap friendly, and we do not recommend physically walking impaired to visit Ilimanaq Lodge.

Children are welcome in Ilimanaq Lodge, but please note that we don't offer a special children's menu and there are no high chairs, changing tables etc.

The only restaurants in Ilimanaq are Restaurant Egede, which are both connected to Ilimanaq Lodge.

However, there is a small local supermarket where you can get most daily necessities.

In addition, the reception in Ilimanaq Lodge has a selection of drinks, snacks and beautiful souvenirs.

If you are delayed on the way to Ilulissat, please notify us of your delay as soon as possible per e-mail or telephone.

In any case, we will try to move your stay in Ilimanaq to another day, but there is no guarantee that this is possible.
In case it is not possible, this is a matter between you and your travel insurance.

As air traffic in Greenland is more unstable than in many other places, we strongly recommend that you have good travel insurance that covers losses in case of flight delays.

Difficulty Level
1: Easy

An easy tour means that you must be able to walk a few kilometers in slightly hilly terrain. Like taking a walk on paths in the woods, with a little detour every now and then. You must also be mobile enough to be able to board a boat, even if it may sway a little.

2: Moderate

Accessible to anyone with good health, who is used to off-road walking and hiking. When it comes to sledding, we call it moderate, as you may have to get off the sled and walk / run next to it. In addition, you need to have a healthy back as there will be bumps along the way.

3: Challenging

On a challenging hike you must be able to walk up and down steep hills. You may also have to walk on loose rocks and cross streams, and walk on snow/ice. Involves hiking with a backpack. When challenging is used in connection with sledding tours, it is because we expec that you can walk / run after the sledge up hills, if this is needed.

4: Demanding

On a demanding hike we expect you to be in good physical shape. This means that you can hike long distances, maybe during several days, and that you can climb many altimeters during the day. Eg. our hike to the Inland Ice, where 1000 altimeters and 20 km must be climbed in one day. Demanding hikes involve hiking with your own backpack.

Strenuous

Expedition level. Requires considerable effort and perseverance. Only suitable for people in really good physical shape.
