Vinter guide & Lodge Staff, Igloo Lodge

Challenges, experiences, and community are what define the job of a Guide at World of Greenland. If you’re looking for a job that will give you memories for life, you should apply to become a guide with us.

This job is a combined position where you will work both as a guide in Ilulissat and be stationed as lodge staff at Igloo Lodge. In other words, you get the best of both worlds.

World of Greenland is looking to fill 2 positions as winter guides/lodge staff from mid-January 2025 to the end of April 2025 , with the possibility of extension. Applicants who wish to stay with the company over the summer will be prioritized. In the summer, we offer jobs as lodge staff, cooks, or servers at Glacier Lodge Eqi or Ilimanaq Lodge.

We are part of the Air Greenland Group and are ultimately owned by the Greenlandic people. We take pride in this and are committed to being a key player in the development of tourism, as well as being among the best at showcasing and conveying what our beautiful country has to offer.

Igloo Lodge is located 15 km into the backcountry and consists of a cabin and 8 igloos. There is no electricity, running water, or mobile signal here.

The tasks at Igloo Lodge include snowmobiling, snowshoeing, dispatching dog sled tours, igloo building, basic cooking, cleaning, and serving guests. As lodge staff at Igloo Lodge, you will host smaller groups of guests who come here to stay overnight, playing a central role in their experience. For many visitors, Igloo Lodge is the highlight of their trip to Greenland, and this commitment drives us to deliver the best product every time. At Igloo Lodge, the focus is on being present with guests and creating a cozy atmosphere.

As a guide, you will be based in Ilulissat and will go on short walks, city tours, northern lights tours, snowmobile trips, helicopter tours, and similar activities. There will also be a fair amount of guest transfer driving, as well as selling and advising on our excursions from our shop. The guide job will also involve practical tasks—such as shopping and packing for Igloo Lodge, transporting goods to Igloo Lodge, shoveling snow, etc. All of these tasks are also part of the job as a guide.

At World of Greenland, we seek guides and lodge staff who can keep a cool head in pressured situations, and who are proactive and take responsibility for the tasks at hand. We expect you to have good situational awareness and interpersonal skills that you can use in your role as an engaged and enthusiastic host. You should enjoy working in a changing environment where you may not necessarily know what will happen from one hour to the next, and you must be prepared to work evenings and weekends at times.

Your qualification:

  • You are from Greenland or have a special connection to Greenland.
  • You may have completed a guide training program at Campus Kujalleq.
  • You have a driver's license and are experienced in driving.
  • You preferably have experience in driving a snowmobile.
  • You have good language skills: at least English and Danish, but preferably also Greenlandic.
  • You have an open personality, a social attitude, and an understanding of the concept of service.
  • You have drive and a can-do attitude, and you are not afraid to get your hands dirty.
  • You thrive on taking responsibility for your work tasks and finding solutions to the problems that arise.
  • You have a first aid course or the opportunity to take one before starting the job, with a minimum of 12 hours and a maximum age of two years.
  • You are generally in good physical shape—working at Igloo Lodge is physically demanding, and it can be hard work to build igloos and fill petroleum tanks.
  • You are aware that the job involves various tasks in a tourism business, including practical duties.
  • You are willing to share a room with a colleague.

We offer:

  • An attractive job in a youthful organization where we take care of each other.
  • Salary by agreement
  • Affordable accommodation in Ilulissat.
  • A free flight ticket from any airport in Greenland to Ilulissat or from Copenhagen to Ilulissat, and return after the end of employment
  • Significant responsibility with opportunities for learning and development.
  • Great experiences during working hours as well as leisure time

Difficulty Level
1: Easy

An easy tour means that you must be able to walk a few kilometers in slightly hilly terrain. Like taking a walk on paths in the woods, with a little detour every now and then. You must also be mobile enough to be able to board a boat, even if it may sway a little.

2: Moderate

Accessible to anyone with good health, who is used to off-road walking and hiking. When it comes to sledding, we call it moderate, as you may have to get off the sled and walk / run next to it. In addition, you need to have a healthy back as there will be bumps along the way.

3: Challenging

On a challenging hike you must be able to walk up and down steep hills. You may also have to walk on loose rocks and cross streams, and walk on snow/ice. Involves hiking with a backpack. When challenging is used in connection with sledding tours, it is because we expec that you can walk / run after the sledge up hills, if this is needed.

4: Demanding

On a demanding hike we expect you to be in good physical shape. This means that you can hike long distances, maybe during several days, and that you can climb many altimeters during the day. Eg. our hike to the Inland Ice, where 1000 altimeters and 20 km must be climbed in one day. Demanding hikes involve hiking with your own backpack.

Strenuous

Expedition level. Requires considerable effort and perseverance. Only suitable for people in really good physical shape.
